May 2008: The EII $1000 Publication Prize is now closed.
Eligibility:
· Research higher degree students from EII member universities
· You must be a co-author, and preferably the "first" or sole author of the accepted paper
· The accepted paper must be a full paper
· Conferences: VLDB, ACM SIGMOD/PODS, ICDE, ICDM & ICIS only
· Paper submission date must be before 31 December 2007
The EII PhD School in October 2005, launched a $1000 Publication Prize for delegates towards travel expenses to present a paper accepted by any of three major international meetings: VLDB, ACM SIGMOD/PODS and ICDE 2007. The objective was to encourage publication in high quality conferences in our field. To win, the student had to be a co-author or preferably the sole author of the accepted paper.
In October 2006, EII was very pleased to announce two winners of this prize:
Mr Ying Zhang, from The University of New South Wales, had a full paper accepted for publication in ICDE 2007: Selecting Stars: the k Most Representative Skyline Operator, X. LIN, Y. Yuan, Q. Zhang, Y. Zhang
Mr Ke [Ken] Deng, from The University of Queensland, also had a full paper accepted for publication in ICDE 2007: Multi-source Skyline Query Processing in Road Networks, K. Deng, X. Zhou and H.T. Shen
Similarly the PhD School in 2006 also offered a $1000 Publication Prize to delegates, adding one more major international conference to the list, ICDM2007, and in January 2007, EII's Steering Committee included a fifth conference: ICIS2007.
In April 2007, EII announced the third winner of this prize: Ms Yi Luo, The University of New South Wales, had a full paper accepted for publication in SIGMOD 2007: SPARK: Top-k Keyword Query in Relational Databases, Yi Luo, Xuemin Lin, Wei Wang, Xiaofang Zhou
In August 2007, EII announced the fourth prize winner: Mr Shahriar Tanvir Hasan Murshed, The University of Sydney, had a full paper accepted for publication in ICIS 2007: SOCIAL NETWORK ANALYSIS AND ORGANIZATION DISINTEGRATION: THE CASE OF ENRON CORPORATION, Shahriar Hasan Murshed, Joseph Davis, and Liaquat Hossian
In October 2007, three students had papers accepted by ICDE 2008! ICDE is a tier 1 conference - one of the most prestigious international databases and data management conferences. For this conference, the paper acceptance ratio for full papers is 19, and for poster papers it's 11.8%. There were total of 617 submissions (a record number for ICDE).
