A task force delegated by the Australian Research Network on Enterprise Information Infrastructure initiated the establishment of a community of researchers and practitioners working in or interested in the area of data quality.  This was preceded and prompted by the need to exploit synergies across diverse communities and work towards a unified framework for data quality management.
