Program

The program commences with a welcome dinner at 7.00pm Friday 15 August, and continues for 4.5 days [9am Saturday 16 to 2pm Wednesday 20 August] at the Kioloa Coastal Campus of the ANU, located 2.5 hours from Canberra and 3.5 hours from Sydney.

The Career Development Workshop for ECRs will be run in parallel with the Winter School. The purpose of this workshop is to assist ECRs to establish meaningful connections within their research community, to provide opportunities for new and effective research collaborations. to inspire an active research network among ECRs as well as with senior researchers in Australia, and to address issues specifically related to ECRs. ECR delegates will also be welcome to attend Winter School sessions.

Planned activities

  • Participants will be scheduled to give a 30 minute presentation about their research interests and current work

  • Participation in research collaboration workshops
  • Participation in panel-based discussions with leading senior researchers
  • Joint Activities with the Winter School

  • Issues of balancing teaching and research demands

  • Applying for research grants
  • Establishing national, international and industry links
  • More topics to be confirmed

The capacity of the Workshop is strictly limited to 20 delegates only. Please submit your application by 1 July 2008. Application forms are available here.

Travel & Accommodation Support

ECRs from EII Member Universities

The registration fee is waived for the Workshop, and full financial support for attendance may be available from the ARC Research Network in Enterprise Information Infrastructure [EII] for successful applicants from EII-member universities. This support includes, where relevant, return economy airfare, accommodation, catering, chartered bus from Sydney or Canberra airports, and workshop materials. To be considered for financial support, please submit an application.

ECRs from other Australian Universities

The registration fee is $550 for the Workshop. This charge includes accommodation, catering, chartered bus from Sydney or Canberra airports, and workshop materials.

ECRs attending VLDB 2008

The registration fee is $550 for the Workshop. This charge includes accommodation, catering, chartered bus from Sydney or Canberra airports, and workshop materials.

Other Applicants

The registration fee is $850 for the Workshop. This charge includes accommodation, catering, chartered bus from Sydney or Canberra airports, and workshop materials.
