PhD Scholarship in Business Analytics, The University of Melbourne

PhD Scholarship in Business Analytics
Dept. of Information Systems,
The University of Melbourne, Australia
---------------------------------------------------------------------- ?

A prestigious Australian Research Council (ARC)-funded PhD scholarship ?is now
available in an exciting new project at the University of Melbourne. ?

You will work on an Australian Research Council funded project titled "The
Impact of Strategy on Business Analytics Success", in collaboration with the
investigators Prof. Graeme Shanks, A/Prof. Peter Seddon,  Dr. Peter Reynolds and
Prof. Leslie Willcocks.

Business analytics involves the collection, storage and interpretation of data
in order to make better decisions and to optimise business processes. Although
the analysis of data has been used in business for many years to aid
decision-making, many organisations have had difficulty in achieving anticipated
benefits from large-scale, enterprise-wide, business-analytic systems. Recently,
however, compelling evidence has emerged of the successful use of
business-analytic systems to gain competitive advantage. This project will
develop and test a new theoretical model that explains and predicts how
organisations can match their organisational strategy with their business
analytics capabilities to improve firm performance. A longitudinal empirical
study will refine the model and examine how business analytics capabilities are
developed and leveraged over time.

The scholarship is under the supervision of Prof. Graeme Shanks and A/Prof.
?Peter Seddon. The annual stipend for 2011 is $22,500 per annum. ?The
scholarship is available from Jan 2011 for up to 3 years of PhD studies. ?
